The Department of Industrial Engineering carries out scientific research and provides an education in the areas of Aerospace Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Management Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Technical Physics Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering.
The Department of Industrial Engineering was founded in October 2012 as part of the reorganisation of the University of Bologna, from the merger of the DIEM (Department of Mechanical, Nuclear, Aeronautical and Metallurgical Engineering), DIENCA (Department of Energy, Nuclear and Environmental Control Engineering) and the "Metal Science and Metallurgy” group of SMETEC (Department of "Metal Science, Electrochemistry and Chemical Techniques") into a single structure.
